APACHE's team attends the IWCPT 2019

Dr. Cristina Canal, Dr. Cédric Labay, Dr. Juan Tornin and PhD students Inès Hamouda and Miguel Mateu have attended the 6th International Workshop on Plasma for Cancer Treatment - IWPCT 2019 in Antwerp (Belgium), held on April 1-3rd, 2019.

Five members of ERC APACHE project, including Project Leader Dr. Cristina Canal, have attended the  6th International Workshop on Plasma for Cancer Treatment - IWPCT 2019 in Antwerp (Belgium), held on April 1-3rd, 2019.

Dr. Labay had an oral talk presenting his work on "Plasma-treated gelatine/alginate hydrogels as reservoir of RONS" (C. Labay, M. Roldán, M.P. Ginebra, C. Canal).

Dr. Tornin, Ms. Hamouda and Mr. Mateu had a poster presentation each to present their works on:

  • J. Tornín, M. Mateu-Sanz, A. Rodriguez, R. Rodríguez, C. Canal. Pyruvate plays a main role to ensure the antitumoral selectivity of cold atmospheric plasma in osteosarcoma
  • I. Hamouda, C. Labay, M.P. Ginebra, E. Nicol, C. Canal. Evaluation of a photo-crosslinked hydrogel as carrier of reactive species generated by plasma jets * Best Poster Presentation Prize
  • M. Mateu, J. Tornín, C. Canal. Cold Atmospheric Plasma-activated Ringer's solution selectively induce cytotoxic effects on human osteosarcoma cells

Dr. Cristina Canal is a member of the IWPCT 2019 International Scientific Committee.

The Conference sessions include topics such as Plasma sources and plasma equipment used for cancer treatment;
Plasma-cancer interactions: experiments, modeling and simulation; Destruction of cancer cells by plasma; Mechanisms of plasma selectivity towards cancer cells; Plasma-liquid interaction / plasma chemistry in biological liquids / plasma activated media for cancer treatment; and Clinical and animal studies of cancer treatment by plasma.
